Situation
Based on TTO’s experience with commercialisation we proposed a three-fold strategy.
Firstly, to use citation analysis to identify licensing candidates for the more mature patents.
Secondly, to use industry analysis to identify licensing partners for the younger patents in the portfolio.
Thirdly, to device a more specific strategy for patenting for new product areas, which the company is moving into.
TTO was asked to supply general advice about IPT portfolio managements as well as specific proposals for commercializing the company’s IPR outside its core business.
An internal process was established for sorting, ranking and qualitative valuation of the patent portfolio.
This process led to the identification of patents with a perceived licensing potential.
A Danish company was striving to become a more innovative company. One instrument was to install a more active IPR portfolio management.
This included a better understanding of the use of IPR for present and future products as well as creating value outside of the company’s core business through licensing of patent rights.
