Challenge

TTO made an assessment of the technology in question as well as the people behind the company.

Through interviews and technical analyses it was concluded
that the solution was not competitive in the long run. Information retrieved from interviewing the client’s direct competitors that had previously evaluated the start-up company with a negative outcome was given special emphasis in the process.

Therefore, TTO’s recommendation to the client was not to call the option
since the price did not reflected the underlying value of the asset.

 

A global player in the medical devices field serving consolidated niche markets had recently acquired an American competitor.

As part of the acquisition, an
option was given to acquire a small start-up company having developed an innovative solution for minimally invasive surgical solutions in male continence care.

TTO was asked to conduct a technological due diligence to evaluate if the start-up in fact had a wining solution.

 

With only a few weeks remaining before the option had to be called, the client needed a more thorough understanding of technology in question.

TTO set up a
plan for evaluating the technology based on end-user feedback, IP landscape and technical experts.

Furthermore, a system for scoring the analytical
parameters based on the client’s strategic situation was developed.
